LIVERPOOL IN £60M TRIPLE STRIKER SWOOP
It's almost a free hit - an open goal if you like - and one that the papers were not going to miss.
Brendan Rodgers on Saturday night: "I'll look at it (my strikers) in the summer. It's something we have to work on."
And lo and behold, Monday's Daily Telegraph claims the Reds are plotting a £60m raid on three strikers this summer, with PSV's in-demand Memphis Depay, Aston Villa hot-shot Christian Benteke and Burnley's star striker Danny Ings the men in question.
Hard to imagine Liverpool will strike deals for all three, but the pursuit for Depay may well hinge on their ability to secure that coveted Champions League spot.
Man United still look favourites for fourth despite the weekend's results, and probably look the more favourable destination for the winger, who almost boasts a goal in every two games in the Eredivisie. Still, stranger things have happened.
As for Benteke, well that's a funny one. On his day unplayable - and linked with moves to pretty much all the Premier League powerhouses. But when his form went off the boil, so too did the transfer links to all and sundry. Funny that. If you thought fans were fickle, what does that make football gossip columnists...?
Anyway, Benteke is now back at his best for Villa, so that means his name can sit high amongst the summer rumours. Time will tell....
And Ings? Well, he's on a free. He's young. He's English. Of course clubs will want him.
The Telegraph goes on to claim that Liverpool will cast off Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini to fund this triple swoop - and that we can at least believe (if they can find buyers).
CHELSEA IN FOR IMBULA
Both The Sun and the Daily Express claim Jose Mourinho wants a new deep-lying midfielder to sit alongside Nemanja Matic - and Marseille's Giannelli Imbula is that man.
Well, he is if, apparently, the Blues decide to sign him as opposed Morgan Schneiderlin, who they also 'continue to monitor'.
The papers go on to claim that Imbula snubbed a £1m move to Chelsea two years ago over a lack of first-team guarantees....we're not sure what will have changed in that department since then, though his value does seem to have now gone through the roof, with a fee of £20m being mooted for the 22-year-old.
